Presidents Bill Clinton and Donald Trump claim a fine relationship with the God of the Bible. I reject those claims that they make. Their conduct and their claims, however, are not my primary focus/concern in this post. What is? It is the conduct of Evangelical clergymen because they claim to be teachers of God’s Word the Bible, but their blatant hypocrisy, which is shown forth in their double standard in the selective way they handle the moral offenses of politicians, sends forth a message that they want us to believe has God’s approval. Their false religious message is to the effect that Christians need not concern themselves with the idea that they might incur God’s wrath when they make themselves the friends of those who falsely claim to be Christians, but who unrepentantly practice lying and sexual immorality. Those Evangelical clergymen have the greater sin.
What is the truth here? The Bible warns false religious teachers in these words: “But according to your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath and of the revealing of God’s righteous judgment. And he will pay back to each one according to his works, everlasting life to those who are seeking glory and honor and incorruptibleness by endurance in work that is good; however, for those who are contentious and who disobey the truth but obey unrighteousness, there will be wrath and anger. There will be tribulation and distress on every person who works what is harmful
. . . but glory and honor and peace for everyone who works what is good . . . For there is no partiality with God” (Romans 2:5-11).
